Lots of chances but just one point

Got the performance but not the result - that was the mood in the Borussia camp after the 1-1 draw against SC Freiburg. In other news Marco Reus has pulled out of the Germany' under-21 squad due to injury.

They wanted more, of that there is no doubt. At recovery training on Sunday none of the players seemed really happy with the point. For the 1-1 draw against SC Freiburg did not necessarily reflect the balance of play, as Borussia put in substantially more attacking effort than their Breisgau opponents. The post-match Opta sports data revealed that there had been 29 shots on goal (20-9), but both teams scored just the once. Roberto Colautti had five attempts and Raul Bobadilla four – but the biggest chance of the lot probably fell to Karim Matmour ten minutes from time. Fellow substitute Rob Friend supplied a textbook lay-off for the Algerian, who took time to pick his corner, only to dispatch a crisp drive just past the post. "I'm not blaming our strikers," Borussia's director of sport Max Eberl said later. "But obviously it was a shame because we carved out a lot of chances."

Two players underwent treatment on Sunday and were thus unable to take part in the recovery session. Captain Filip Daems took a blow to the foot during the game, but will be fit when training resumes on Tuesday, while Marco Reus suffered a medial collateral ligament sprain. The 20-year-old gritted his teeth and carried on but had to undergo treatment after the game. And as there was no way he could train yesterday he was forced to pull out of Germany's under-21 clash with Iceland on Tuesday. Max Eberl said: "It's a shame for Marco because the call-up came in recognition of his good performances of late. We'll now do everything we can to get him fit again as soon as possible."
