Hofmann earns first Germany call-up

Jonas Hofmann has been named in the Germany squad for the first time, one of eight Foals set for feature for during the upcoming international break.

Germany

Jonas Hofmann could make his debut for the Germany national team in the upcoming international break after Joachim Löw named him in his 29-man squad to face Turkey, Ukraine and Switzerland. Florian Neuhaus, who is also waiting for his first cap, and Matthias Ginter also kept their place in the squad. "I'm over the moon to have been called up. It's every footballer's dream to play for their country," said Hofmann.

  • Tuesday, 13th October (20:45 CEST, Cologne): Germany vs. Switzerland (UEFA Nations League)

Switzerland

Yann Sommer and Nico Elvedi are also involved for their nation in the upcoming break, while Michael Lang is on standby. The Switzerland squad doesn't feature Breel Embolo, however, with the forward only just returning to fitness after suffering an injury in the last international break. "We held talks with the Swiss FA and want to thank them for their understanding," said Borussia's sporting director Max Eberl. "Given that he's still not fully fit, it didn't make sense for us that he would go on international duty when there are three fixtures in the calendar. Both us and Switzerland want to be able to have Breel at his best, so we have to take care of him."
