Stats and facts ahead of #BMGFCB

Everything to know ahead of Friday night’s Bundesliga home game against FC Bayern München (20:30 CET).

Spectators:

  • Under the current coronavirus measures being enforced by the state and federal governments, all professional sporting events must take place behind closed doors. As such, no spectators will be permitted to attend the home game against FC Bayern München at BORUSSIA-PARK.

Other news:

  • Borussia will no longer be playing the stadium anthem “Die Seele brennt” ahead of home games until further notice. The reason behind this decision is an ongoing legal claim submitted by the songwriters.

Head-to-head record:

  • This will be the 105th Bundesliga meeting between Borussia and FC Bayern München. The head-to-head record is in Bayern’s favour, with 50 wins to 25 for Borussia. This fixture has ended in a draw on 29 occasions.
  • In the last three years, the Foals have beaten Bayern in every meeting in the first half of the season, and gone on to lose every meeting in the second half of the season.
  • Patrick Herrmann has scored four goals against Bayern, to go along with six wins. No active players have won more games against FCB than Herrmann, teammate Lars Stindl, former Gladbach man Havard Nordtveit and Dortmund’s Lukasz Piszczek.

Statistics – provided by UNIBET:

  • Both Borussia and Bayern have a busy start to the year ahead of them, as both are still taking part in three competitions. For the first time since 2016/17, the Foals head into the new year having survived the knock-out rounds in the DFB-Pokal and in European competition, as well as being in the Bundesliga.
  • For just the second time in club history, Borussia are starting the new year in the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and the highest-ranked European cup competition (i.e. the UEFA Cup or the current UEFA Champions League). They've only managed this once before, in 1975/76.
  • The Foals have taken more points from seven away games this season (11) than they have from their seven home games (10).
  • The only game at BORUSSIA-PARK this season in which the Foals have managed to score more than once was their 4-1 win over last-placed Schalke.
  • No team has scored more goals from set pieces this season than Gladbach (11).
  • FC Bayern started the new year with a hard-fought win against Mainz. For the first time since 1988 (4-3 vs. Leverkusen back then), FCB came back from 2-0 down at halftime to win. The Bavarians benefitted from a spot of luck, as Mainz twice hit the post (while leading 2-0 and with the game tied at 2-2).
  • Bayern have gone behind in all of their last eight Bundesliga games for the first time in club history. However, they have picked up points in all of these games (W5, D3). No team has ever gone behind in eight consecutive games and not lost (previous record was five games, which has happened on six occasions).
  • Bayern have scored 44 goals in 14 Bundesliga games this season (averaged out across an entire season, it would be 107 at the end). Only one team in league history has ever netted more goals at this stage: Bayern themselves in 1976/77. Back then, Gerd Müller, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Uli Hoeneß were the club’s three top goalscorers.
  • Robert Lewandowski has scored 19 goals this Bundesliga season. The only other player to net as often after 14 matchdays was Gerd Müller (20 in 1968/69, 19 in 1976/77). However, Lewandowski has scored just four goals in 16 meetings with Mönchengladbach.

Officials:

  • Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the DFB will only announce the officials for #BMGFCB the day of the game.

Social Media:

  • Fans can follow the game online using the hashtag #BMGFCB, or by following our English-language social media accounts on Twitter and Facebook.
