Neuhaus: “Continuing our successful form”

Florian Neuhaus sat down on Wednesday to discuss the 1-0 victory over Werder Bremen, the first half of the season, and his personal development.

Flo, you and the team closed out the Hinrunde of the Bundesliga successfully yesterday with a win against Werder Bremen. What are your thoughts on the game?

Neuhaus: I thought that we started the game well and were very dominant for the first 20 minutes. That dominance lessened a bit as the game developed though. In the end it felt like we achieved a hard-earned victory, which is very important for us at this stage in the campaign. We’re very happy that we came away with all three points!

Do you think that you had that extra bit of luck in the end that has been lacking a bit lately?

Neuhaus: I think that you could definitely have called it luck when Rashica hit the inside of the post and it rolled to Sommer right at the end! So far this season we've sometimes been lucky and sometimes not, but I would say that against Bremen luck was definitely on our side and we ended up with the victory as a result.

The next fixture is just around the corner as you face Borussia Dortmund on Friday. What kind of game are you expecting?

Neuhaus: Dortmund are without a win in two matches and that's definitely unusual for their team. We want to take advantage of that. We’ll have to play with courage and try to win the ball back as often as possible, because we know that they don't like it when the opposing team has the ball. We want to play attacking football and hopefully get another victory.

How tough are the midweek games for you?

Neuhaus: So far this season, I've coped well with all of the games. I don't tend to worry about the workload, whenever I'm out on the pitch I just want to perform well and be successful.

After 17 games this season, the Foals have a total of 28 points. How would you sum up the first half of the season?

Neuhaus: Overall, I think we can be happy with the way that our season has gone so far. We've picked up 10 points in our last four games and have had a good start to the new year, so of course the main goal now is to continue this successful form.

What has been your highlight of this season so far?

Neuhaus: For me, the highlight has to be progressing to the knockout stages of the Champions League in Madrid.

How do you assess your personal development so far this season?

Neuhaus: That's something I'm very pleased about, but I’m not even close to reaching my peak yet. I know that I can still improve a lot and that's what I want to do.

The Champions League round of 16 game against Manchester City is also on the horizon. How much are you looking forward to that one?

Neuhaus: There's still a few weeks until the round of 16 games! (smiles) But obviously I'm looking forward to it a lot already.
