Match facts ahead of #BMGKOE

All the facts and figures ahead of Saturday night’s Bundesliga derby against 1. FC Köln (18:30 CET).

Spectators

  • Under the current Coronavirus measures being enforced by the federal and state governments, all professional sporting events must take place behind closed doors.

Head-to-head record

  • Borussia and 1. FC Köln will meet for the 92nd time in the Bundesliga this weekend. The Foals have won 51 of the encounters so far, the Billy Goats just 24, with 16 ending in draws.
  • Borussia won more Bundesliga games against Köln than against any other team, including all of the last three. The Foals have not won four consecutive derbies since the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons.
  • The last derby in Mönchengladbach had initially been planned for 9 February 2020 but was called off due to a severe weather warning. It was eventually held on 11 March and will now sadly always be remembered as the Bundesliga’s first ever game without spectators. The Foals won the game 2-1.

Statistics – presented by UNIBET betting company

  • The Foals have remained unbeaten in the opening six Bundesliga games of the year for the first time since 2012. Back then, Borussia finished the season in fourth place.
  • Last weekend, Marco Rose’s men drew against Union Berlin – their eighth draw of the season. Only in 1990/91 had the Foals drawn more games at this stage of a season (nine times).
  • Borussia are the only team to have scored 16 goals from set-pieces this season – 44% of their goals, which is also a league high. Köln have scored seven of their 18 goals from set-pieces (39%) - the second highest percentage in the league.
  • Marco Rose has been Gladbach head coach for three derbies and has seen his team beat Köln on every occasion.
  • 1. FC Köln beat Bielefeld 3-1 at home last weekend, which saw them climb out of the relegation zone for the first time in almost a month. They now sit at 14th. It was their first home win in almost a year, and their very first without spectators.
  • Köln have enjoyed as many wins in their last three Bundesliga games (2) as in their previous 26 games.

Officials

  • The DFB will confirm the officials on the day of the match, due to the Coronavirus measures in place.
