Sommer: “A point is fine from our perspective”

Yann Sommer sat down on Monday to discuss the goalless draw against VfL Wolfsburg in front of the media. Borussia’s keeper spoke about the way the game panned out and the upcoming challenges, amongst other things.

Yann Sommer on…

…Sunday’s draw to Wolfsburg: It was a tough game against a very good opponent. Wolfsburg are a difficult team to play against and they play intense football. I thought we played well in the first half but then it got much more difficult after the interval and we didn’t really create any good chances. Overall, I’d say that we’re happy to taken a point from the game.

…the freezing conditions in Wolfsburg: It was extremely cold in Wolfsburg and that affects you most as a goalkeeper. It wasn’t easy at all. I was standing around for long periods and wasn’t able to move about much. But you have to deal with it. I think we defended well all in all and the fact we managed to keep a clean sheet is important for the whole team. We’re just a little bit disappointed that we were unable to break them down at the other end of the pitch.

…the Foals’ physical presence in the game: As I said, they played very intensively with a lot of sprints and power. It’s difficult to find spaces after winning the ball and then move to attack. We managed that okay in the first half but struggled after the break, so a point is fine from our perspective.

…the upcoming midweek games: I’m looking forward to the games a lot, but it’s a big challenge for sure. We’re slowly but surely heading into the business end of the season now, but there’s still 13 games left in the Bundesliga season. It’s going to be a tough battle for the European spots. We’re going to fight for them with everything we’ve got.

Yann Sommer kept a clean sheet despite freezing conditions in Wolfsburg.
