Sippel: "We can be happy with the draw"

Goalkeeper Tobias Sippel was brought on after a quarter of an hour against Hertha BSC for Yann Sommer, and spoke to the media about the 2-2 draw in Berlin.

Tobias Sippel on...

...the moments after Yann Sommer's red card: My first thought was that I'd have to get changed as quickly as possible. But, I also knew that they wouldn't be able to restart play without me. That's why you have some time to get ready during a moment like that.

...the game: Of course it didn't go to plan after I came on. Hertha's first shot, which took a slight deflection, put us behind straight away. But, I think we did well after that. We took a 2-1 lead with us into the break. We of course expected more from ourselves during the second half. We wanted to slow the game a bit and keep possession. We didn't really manage to do that. Hertha did well during that phase of the game and deservedly equalised. Overall, we can be happy with the draw.

...Captain Lars Stindl's penalty: It was an important game with a lot of pressure riding on it, even without the fans. We all know what's at stake. Some people can watch someone take a penalty during a game like that, and others can't. The coach didn't look this time. But, I have a lot of trust in Lars when it comes to situations like that and always believe that he will score.

...the point: Based on the way the game went, it's a point that we're happy to have. Before the game, we definitely expected more. We really wanted to win. Overall, however, we can be happy with the point. Now, we're focused on preparing for the next game against Eintracht Frankfurt.

...rituals before the game: I've never had any rituals before the game. They just serve to make you crazy. If you forget something, then it's all you can think about during the game. That's why I don't have any rituals.

Tobias Sippel made his sixth competitive appearance this season in Berlin.
