"We deservedly lost" - Hoffenheim match reaction

We gathered the thoughts from Stefan Lainer and the two coaches after Borussia's 3-2 defeat to TSG Hoffenheim on Wednesday night.

Stefan Lainer: With the end of the season in sight, they would have been an incredibly important three points. Unfortunately, we’ve let them slip through our fingers, which is really disappointing. We put in a really good performance last time out against Frankfurt; we fought hard and covered a lot of ground. We were lacking those elements this time though. We may have scored two goals in the first half, but it was actually a very even game. We were anything but dominant. The coach told us at half time that we could count ourselves lucky to be 2-0 up and that our performance needs to improve in the second half, yet somehow we managed to completely throw the game away and that’s incredibly frustrating. Unfortunately, losing our rhythm after really good performances has been a bit of a theme this season and is certainly something we have to work on. The team were determined to win today, but we didn’t do enough to make it happen.

Marco Rose: We were aiming to keep our winning run going today, but we deservedly lost. We needn’t bother going into any discussions about refereeing decisions – the result is down to us alone. The lads were at their limit in a busy week. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to make up any ground in the table. We need to work on our performance levels so that we get better results in the next games.

Hoffenheim head coach Sebastian Hoeneß: It was a deserved victory, crowned by three second-half goals. We had already played well in the first 45 and the scoreline at the break was ridiculous. We needed a little more conviction in front of goal. The lads never lost belief though and really pushed on after the first goal. We played well for the full 90 minutes and the only negatives are the two Gladbach goals.
