Vote for your Player of the Month for April

Marcus Thuram, Tobias Sippel, Jonas Hofmann and Breel Embolo are up for April’s Player of the Month award, presented by Cichon Personalmanagement. Fans can vote for their winner on the FohlenApp.

The Foals continued their resurgence in April, winning three of their five Bundesliga games and drawing and losing one apiece. The month began with a 2-1 win over SC Freiburg thanks to a Marcus Thuram double, making him Man of the Match. Tobias Sippel had the most votes in the 2-2 draw at Hertha, while Jonas Hofmann won the award after the 4-0 home victory against Eintracht Frankfurt. Sippel was again the fans’ favourite in the 3-2 defeat to Hoffenheim, before Breel Embolo scored twice in a 5-0 thumping over Bielefeld to win the final accolade of the month.

Fans can vote for their choice for Player of the Month between now and midnight on Thursday on the FohlenApp.

Marcus Thuram: Like the rest of the team, Thuram stepped things up after the break against SC Freiburg to turn the game around. The France international scored two goals in the second half to secure the win. The first came in the 53rd minute after his effort towards goal was deflected in by Baptiste Santamaria. Seven minutes later, Christoph Kramer played it through to Thuram, who fended off Philipp Lienhart and then rounded Florian Müller to make it 2-1. Thuram won 66% of the votes after that game. He continued to impress in April, scoring once more and recording four assists.

Tobias Sippel: After Yann Sommer’s early red card in Berlin, Tobias Sippel came on after a quarter of an hour for his sixth appearance of the season in all competitions. He was left without a chance for both of Hertha’s goals in the 2-2 draw and made several saves to secure the ten men a point in the capital. 33% of the fans voted for him as Man of the Match. The goalkeeper continued to be a solid replacement for Sommer in the following games, keeping a clean sheet at home to Frankfurt (4-0) and impressing again in Sinsheim (3-2 loss to Hoffenheim), winning his second Man of the Match award in three games, receiving 21% of the votes on this occasion.

Jonas Hofmann: The midfielder had a fine game in the 4-0 win over Frankfurt, picking up 51% of the votes. Hofmann actually made his return to the team for this game after his Covid-19 infection and certainly made up for his absence. He set up the first goal from a corner, scored the second and assisted the third – again from a corner. “Jonas was involved in three goals in his first game back after his infection and played really well, like the rest of the team,” said Marco Rose. Hofmann went off just before the end after a shot from Amin Younes caught him from close range. Thankfully though, he was given the all-clear the next day.

Breel Embolo: The Swiss striker had ‘only’ been used from off the bench in the previous four games in April, but got his first start since 27th January (3-2 loss in Leipzig) against Bielefeld. He had a great game in the 5-0 win, opening the scoring from a Stefan Lainer cross. Embolo grabbed a second to make it 4-0, finishing off a fine team move and then even assisted the fifth and final goal for Alassane Plea. “Breel has had to wait a while for this appearance, which he has earned after good performances in training. He was really on it today and played some good stuff. He had a hand in three goals and overall it was a great performance from him,” commented Rose. 52% of fans voted for Embolo after the game on the FohlenApp.
