Tobias Sippel is Borussia’s Player of the Month for April

Borussia fans have voted Tobias Sippel as April’s Player of the Month, presented by Cichon Personalmanagement. The goalkeeper beat off competition from Marcus Thuram, Jonas Hofmann and Breel Embolo.

For the first time in his Gladbach career, Tobias Sippel has been awarded with a Player of the Month award. He won more than 50% of the fans’ votes to beat Marcus Thuram (26%), Jonas Hofmann (16%) and Breel Embolo (8%).

Sippel played three games in April for the Foals. The first of those was in Berlin, where the 33-year-old came off the bench after around 15 minutes because of Yann Sommer’s early red card. It was only his sixth competitive appearance of the season. Sippel was left without a chance for both of Hertha’s goals in the 2-2 draw, but made several stops to secure his side a point. 33% of the fans voted for him as Man of the Match that day.

He continued to be a reliable replacement for Sommer in the following two games, firstly keeping a clean sheet in the 4-0 win over Frankfurt. Although Borussia lost their next match at Hoffenheim (3-2), he was again Man of the Match, receiving 21% of the votes.
