Match facts ahead of VfB Stuttgart

Everything to know ahead of the Foals’ home game against VfB Stuttgart this Saturday (15:30 CEST).

Spectators

  • With the city of Mönchengladbach being part of a pilot project, there were hopes that some fans would be allowed into the stadium this Saturday. However, the seven-day infection rate is still too high, meaning that the match between the Foals and VfB Stuttgart will have to take place behind closed doors.
  • Borussia will debut their new 2021/22 Puma home shirt in what will be the final home game of the Bundesliga season. The shirt is available to purchase now in the club’s online shop, the FohlenShop at BORUSSIA-PARK (Click & Collect or appointment-based), in all Puma shops, sporting goods stores and at puma.com

Head-to-head

  • This will be the 98th Bundesliga meeting between the Swabians and the Foals. Stuttgart have won on 39 occasions, compared to 29 for Borussia (D29), with an average of 2.94 goals per game.
  • The two sides are facing each other for the third time this season, but for the first time at BORUSSIA-PARK in 2020/21. The reverse league fixture ended in a 2-2 draw in mid-January, while the Foals won 2-1 away in the round of 16 in the DFB-Pokal in early February.

Statistics – presented by UNIBET

  • Following last weekend’s 6-0 defeat to FC Bayern München, the Foals will be looking to lock up seventh place in order to qualify for the Conference League play-offs. The Foals could only finish sixth by winning both their remaining two games, provided that Leverkusen lose both of theirs (vs. Union and in Dortmund).
  • Borussia have won each of their last three home games, including big wins in both their last two (4-0 vs. Frankfurt, 5-0 vs. Bielefeld, also 2-1 vs. Freiburg). However, the Foals have picked up fewer points at home this season (28 so far) than they did across the whole of 2019/20 (38).
  • The Foals have scored a league-high 22 set-piece goals in 2020/21. They have netted 37% of their goals this season in this manner - the highest proportion in the league.
  • Lars Stindl is the highest-scoring German player in the Bundesliga this season (12 goals). Jonas Hofmann (11) has provided the second-most assists by a German player in 2020/21, after Bayern’s Thomas Müller.
  • VfB are mathematically safe following last weekend’s 2-1 win over Augsburg. The Swabians were never seriously threatened by relegation, having never dropped into the bottom third of the table this season. They also have a slim chance of qualifying for Europe, sitting just four points behind seventh-placed Borussia.
  • VfB have picked up as many points at home in 2020/21 as they have on the road (21). After four wins from their first six away games this season, they have won just two of their 10 matches on their travels since. They are currently on a three-game losing run on the road (in Munich, at Union and in Leipzig).
  • Sasa Kalajdzic has scored a club-high 15 goals this season, and his five assists make him the player with the most goal involvements for Stuttgart in 2020/21. The last player to score as many Bundesliga goals within a season for the Swabians was Vedad Ibisevic (15 in 2012/13).

Officials

  • The DFB will confirm the officials on the day of the match, due to the Coronavirus measures in place.

Social Media

  • Fans can follow the match on social media using the hashtag #BMGVfB or by following Borussia’s English-language accounts on Facebook and Twitter.
