Summer plans: Training restarts 3 July, training camp at the Klosterpforte hotel

On Saturday, 3 July, Borussia will begin pre-season preparations ahead of 2021/22. From 17 to 24 July, the Foals will, as in previous years, complete a training camp in Harsewinkel-Marienfeld.

The 2020/21 season has just come to an end, and the Foals already have their sights set on the season to come. Borussia will begin pre-season training on Saturday, 3 July with a session at BORUSSIA-PARK, led for the first time by new head coach Adi Hütter. The first pre-season friendly is set for Saturday, 10 July in Mönchengladbach: The Foals will take on third-tier side Viktoria Köln. From 17 July, the squad will spend a week at the Klosterpforte hotel for the annual training camp. On their way to Harsewinkel-Marienfeld, Hütter’s men will stop off at SC Paderborn for a friendly against the second-division team.

Last year, the Foals completed their summer training camp at the hotel in Harsewinkel-Marienfeld, making use of its optimal facilities, including two of its own training pitches. Prior to that, from 2012 to 2019, Borussia spent eight consecutive summers in Rottach-Egern by Lake Tegernsee. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the usual stay at the local Althoff Lake Hotel was not possible. This year, too, given the current state of the pandemic, Borussia did not see it as feasible to plan a training camp at Lake Tegernsee. After all, the Foals were always accompanied there by numerous supporters. Under the current circumstances, however, it would not be possible to offer the same proximity to the team.

"Obviously we would have been delighted to welcome Borussia Mönchengladbach back to the Althoff hotel this year. Unfortunately, that is not yet possible in the current climate. This means we are looking forward to a reunion next year even more," said Vincent Ludwig, managing director at the Seehotel Überfahrt. The Mayor of Rottach-Egern Christian Köck is also excited for 2022: "Rottach-Egern and the Tegernsee valley are looking forward to welcoming back Borussia Mönchengladbach and their many loyal fans to Lake Tegernsee next year! We wish the club a successful preseason under new head coach Adi Hütter and a successful season, with as few injuries as possible."

  • Saturday, 3. July: Training restarts at BORUSSIA-PARK (10:30 CEST)
  • Saturday, 10 July: Friendly vs. Viktoria Köln
  • Saturday, 17 July: Friendly vs. SC Paderborn (away)
  • 17 - 24 July: Training camp in Marienfeld
