Match facts ahead of #FCKBMG

Everything to know ahead of the Foals’ away game at 1. FC Kaiserslautern on Monday night in the DFB-Pokal (20:45 CEST).

  • The “Red Devils” had originally been given special permission to host up to 20,000 supporters in the Fritz-Walter-Stadion. However, due to the seven-day incidence rate rising above 35 for three consecutive days in Kaiserslautern, the maximum crowd permitted is now only 5,000. FCK have chosen not to reduce the number of away fans allowed in the ground, meaning 500 Gladbach supporters can still attend the game.

Head-to-head record

  • This will be the 91st meeting between FCK and the Foals in all competitions. The two sides have faced each other 80 times in the Bundesliga, five times in the DFB-Pokal and twice in both the UEFA Cup and Bundesliga 2 previously.
  • This is Gladbach’s first trip to the Betztenberg since 18th February 2012. Back then, Borussia won 2-1 in the Bundesliga thanks to goals from Patrick Herrmann and Juan Arango. Kaiserslautern were relegated that season to the second tier, and now even play in the 3. Liga after another relegation in 2018.
  • Monday’s clash will be the sixth in the DFB-Pokal between the two teams. The first meeting was back in 1972/73, when Gladbach won 2-1 at home in the quarterfinals and then recorded a 3-1 victory in the second leg five days later away from home. FCK got their revenge at the same stage in 1980/81, beating the Foals 3-1. They also won 3-2 in the round of 16 in 1993/94 at the ‘Betze’. The most legendary Pokal fixture came in 1994/95 – Borussia knocked Kaiserslautern out in the semi-finals (1-0 a.e.t.), as they went on to win the competition that year. The most recent game was in the second round of 2000/01, with the Foals thumping their opponents 5-1 on that occasion.

Statistics - presented by UNIBET

  • Borussia have won the DFB-Pokal three times, most recently in 1995. The Foals have also reached the final on a further two occasions.
  • Gladbach were knocked out in the quarterfinals last season by Borussia Dortmund (1-0).
  • Kaiserslautern lost in last year’s first round to second-tier side SSV Jahn Regensburg (4-3 on penalties).
  • With amateur teams not allowed to train, the South West Cup couldn’t be completed because of the pandemic, meaning Kaiserslautern made the first round of the DFB-Pokal without having to win the tournament.

  • The DFB will confirm the officials on the day of the match, due to the Coronavirus measures in place.
