Big day in World Cup qualifying for our Borussia boys

This Sunday night, Germany (with Jonas Hofmann and Florian Neuhaus) and Switzerland (with Yann Sommer, Nico Elvedi and Denis Zakaria) both face big tasks in their World Cup qualifying group. In other news, youngster Yvandro Borges Sanches made his debut for Luxembourg.

With Foals Jonas Hofmann and Florian Neuhaus in the squad, Germany will play their next World Cup qualifier for the 2022 tournament in Qatar. After getting their third win of the campaign on Thursday night (2-0 vs. Liechtenstein), they take on Group J leaders Armenia in Stuttgart at 20:45 CEST. Hansi Flick’s men are one point behind tonight’s opponents and have their sights set on first place.

Elsewhere, Switzerland will entertain European champions Italy in Basel (also at 20:45 CEST). Yann Sommer, Nico Elvedi, Denis Zakaria and Co. are currently second in Group C, three points behind Italy but with one game in hand.

On Saturday evening, Borussia’s U19 player Yvandro Borges Sanches made his senior Luxembourg debut at the age of 17. The young Foal was brought on in stoppage time of the 4-1 defeat to Serbia. After Roby Langers and Jeff Strasser, Borges Sanches is the third Foal in Borussia’s club history to play for the Luxembourg national team. "I’m disappointed about the result, but happy about making my debut," he wrote on Instagram.
