Scally: "We didn’t finish well enough"

Joe Scally speaks after the 1-0 loss against Hertha BSC and looks ahead to the DFB-Pokal game against FC Bayern München on Wednesday evening (20:45 CEST).

Joe, what did you make of the match in Berlin?

Joe Scally: The result is really disappointing. Overall, we dominated the game, had a lot of possession and chances to score. Berlin had one opportunity and scored the decisive goal. We have to find more ways to score if we want to win.

In your opinion, what were the reasons behind that defeat?

Scally: I don’t want to look for excuses. We were awarded a penalty which was then overturned and at the start, every bit of contact was given as a foul. That’s how it is sometimes and we have to figure out how to win matches, regardless.

How difficult is it to come back in such a physical game?

Scally: As I said, we had a lot of possession and good chances to score, but we didn’t finish well enough. We need to work on that and improve for our next fixtures.

You’ll have the chance to do that on Wednesday.

Scally: Defeat is always a step back, but when we lose, it’s always preferable to be back out there as soon as possible to try to win the next game. We have that chance on Wednesday and we want to show the fans how much we need their support and how hard we’re trying to win games.

What are your thoughts on the DFB-Pokal fixture against Bayern?

Scally: We love playing at home, and the game on Wednesday at BORUSSIA-PARK against Bayern is going to be a massive game for us.
