“Typical of our situation” - #BMGSGE match reaction

We gathered the thoughts from the players and coaches after Borussia’s 3-2 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday night.

Matthias Ginter: We started well and deservedly took the lead, but we conceded a very annoying equaliser with virtually the last kick of the half. We then went behind early after the restart, which didn’t really reflect the run of play. We piled on the pressure with the man advantage and had a few chances to equalise, but it’s typical of our situation that the ball just wouldn’t go in. We have gotten ourselves into this position and now we have to pull together to get out of it.

László Bénes: It’s a real shame that we’ve come away empty-handed, particularly as we played so well in the first half. We had the lead, were in control and had barely given away a chance. A mistake in our build-up play then led to the equaliser right before half time, which is a bad time to concede psychologically. Frankfurt got into the game better in the second half, but we were still very much in it even when we were trailing and fought right until the end. Everyone gave it their all. It’s a pity that we weren’t able to reward ourselves with at least a point.

Adi Hütter: I feel like it’s an undeserved loss. We should have been at least 2-0 up at half time, however, we put ourselves under pressure by allowing them to equalise before the break. Frankfurt’s two goals early in the second half then made life difficult for us. It shouldn’t be the case that we find ourselves 3-2 down moments after getting the equaliser. We gave it our all at the end and the team fought passionately. I think Frankfurt have Kevin Trapp to thank for keeping us out, so it’s a painful and unfortunate defeat for us.

Eintracht Frankfurt head coach Oliver Glasner: I’m very happy to be going home with three points in the bag. It was a difficult game. We struggled to get into it in the first half and suffered an early setback. Our pressing was lethargic, it was all a little half-hearted and we gave the ball away too easily. The goal before half time got us into the game; we pressed well and forced a mistake. We attacked well in the second half and scored some nice goals. The penalty was a little unlucky. We had a huge chance to make it 4-2 as well. They piled on the pressure at the end, but we showed character, threw ourselves in front of every shot and defended the win with real spirit.

Adi Hütter: "I feel like it's an undeserved loss"
