Update on contract negotiations at Borussia

Ten days ago, Max Eberl demanded decisions be made and duly announced. Now the sporting director has got clarification regarding those players set to be out of contract at the end of the season, as the Foals return to BORUSSIA-PARK to resume training this afternoon following a week and half off.

"I made it clear to the lads that, by the end of this year, I want to resolve everything that doesn't have to do with Borussia's second half of the season," Eberl said ahead of the winter break. "I want everyone to be fully focused on the club, the second half of the season and on turning this situation around. The players should use the next few days in order to get their affairs in order. We will also make a few decisions, in order to have everything in order as we begin preparations for the second half of the season."

A few decisions have already been made. Academy product Jordan Beyer has extended his contract with the club, signing a new contract running until 2026. The club are also looking at extending Patrick Herrmann's contract. "We're in the midst of some good discussions with him," Eberl said about Herrmann, the longest-serving player in Borussia's squad alongside Tony Jantschke.

Meanwhile, Denis Zakaria has informed the club of his intention to leave in the summer after five years at Gladbach. Matthias Ginter will also leave the Foals at the end of the season. “I already contacted his agent before Christmas and said that we would be planning without him from the summer at the latest,” said Eberl. Matthias Ginter wrote on Instagram yesterday that he “wanted a new challenge in his career,” but that he would continue to give his all for the second half of the season to help the team achieve their remaining targets.

Max Eberl added: “We know now who we can plan with for next season and who won’t be here. We have clarity going into the second half of this season. This was important for us.”
