Hütter: "Want to pick up points in Dortmund"

On Friday afternoon, Borussia sporting director Roland Virkus and head coach Adi Hütter spoke to the press ahead of Sunday’s away game against BVB (17:30 CET). We have summed up the most important points from today’s press conference.

Head coach Adi Hütter on…

…the personnel: With the exception of Lars Stindl and Mamadou Doucouré, everyone else is available for Sunday. Chris Kramer gives us another option for the game. He’s only been back in team training for a week though, after having been out for a while. He’s a key player for us due to his vast experience. Flo Neuhaus has shown that he can win challenges in holding midfield and covers a lot of ground. That makes him an option for the game in Dortmund.

…his team’s current form: We are still shipping too many goals, but we mustn’t forget that we put in a good performance in a difficult situation against Augsburg. We had the right mentality, played well, scored three goals and could have even scored more.

...the upcoming opponent: We won’t be basing our analysis on last night’s Europa League game against Rangers, but rather on the previous games. BVB have a lot of strengths, but also weaknesses. We will try to come up with a good game plan in order to pick up points in Dortmund. It will definitely come down to being solid in defence and countering quickly after winning possession, in order to take advantage of the spaces.

…Erling Haaland: Erling Haaland guarantees goals and points for Dortmund with his power, dynamism and mentality. We will have to wait and see if he’s involved on Sunday. He definitely will want to, so we have to prepare accordingly for both scenarios. If he doesn’t, then it’s not really an advantage for us because they have several other strong players. But, it’s true that Dortmund are more dangerous with him.

Sporting director Roland Virkus on…

…his first days as sporting director: These last few days have been very exciting. I have done a lot of observation and held a lot of talks. I can’t influence what is happening outside of my control. I’m looking forward to Sunday and my first game in my new role.

…his thoughts before taking on the job: It’s logical that you first take the time to think things through before taking on a job like this. Of course, the responsibilities are quite unique. You have to decide if you’re willing to take it on. If I didn’t back myself to fill this role, then I wouldn’t have accepted the job. You have to come to grips with the process. You can’t be too emotional, but rather need to make a logical decision, which I did.

…the mood within the team: I’ve held a lot of discussions with the players and can say that the mood within the team seems good.

…the return of the fans: We are all thrilled that we will soon have more fans in the stadium. I think it’s right that restrictions are starting to be lifted.
