Everything you need to know about the Foals’ upcoming Bundesliga trip to SC Freiburg on Saturday afternoon (15:30 CEST).

Spectators

  • SC Freiburg have played their home games at the newly-built Europa-Park Stadion (Photo: DFL/Getty Images/Scheuber) since the autumn of 2021, and the game will be a full house, with all 34,700 tickets sold. Around 3,400 Borussia fans will also be supporting the team at the sold-out stadium.
  • There are no Coronavirus regulations or vaccine pass checks in place at the stadium, and there is also no requirement to wear a mask.

Head-to-head record

  • This will be the 40th time Freiburg and Borussia have met in the Bundesliga. The Foals have won 12 of the 39 matches between the sides, with SCF winning 14. 13 clashes have ended in draws.
  • There have been 111 goals in those previous 39 games, 50 for Borussia and 61 for Freiburg.
  • The Breisgau side have not lost any of their last 13 Bundesliga games at home against Gladbach, winning 10 of them – SCF have not gone unbeaten at home for longer against a single Bundesliga opponent. Borussia’s last win in Freiburg game over 20 years ago, a 1:0 win on March 23rd 2002.
  • Four of the 21 goals Freiburg have scored from set pieces this season (the most in the league) came when the two sides met earlier in the campaign – the 6-0 win at BORUSSIA-PARK was SCF’s biggest-ever win in the Bundesliga.

Statistics

  • Following 10 points from the four previous games, the Foals had a setback last time out, losing 3-1 at home in the derby against FC Köln.
  • Three players have scored 11 out of Borussia’s last 12 Bundesliga goals: Breel Embolo and Alassane Plea have both netted four times, and Marcus Thuram has scored three.
  • Freiburg have lost just one of their last nine Bundesliga games, a 4-1 home defeat at the hands of FC Bayern on matchday 28. They have won five and drawn three in that time too.
  • Christian Streich’s side are fast starters: they have scored a dozen times in the opening 15 minutes of games this season, a tally which only Bayer 04 Leverkusen have bettered.
  • Former Foal Vincenzo Grifo has been involved in five goals in his last five Bundesliga games, scoring two and setting a further three up.
