"We countered with our play and fighting spirit" - Reaction to the game

Tobias Sippel, Lars Stindl and Jonas Hofmann as well as the two head coaches, Adi Hütter and Oliver Glasner, react to Borussia's 1-1 draw away against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Tobias Sippel: Unfortunately, we didn't come off the pitch as winners today. There were one or two situations that we could have played out better, and if we had, we could have won the game. Their equalising goal was a fantastic strike. We approached the final two games with the aim of getting as high in the table as possible. That meant coming here and fighting against a side who have just reached the Europa League final and had a great crowd supporting them in Eintracht Frankfurt. I am very pleased that I was able to play today. Yann Sommer and I have been a great partnership for years and we can rely on each other. To have played here at this ground against Kevin Trapp, who is a former teammate of mine from years ago, makes me even happier.

Lars Stindl: I think our performance was somewhere between decent and good. There were a lot of different phases in the game. The first half an hour definitely went our way; we started well and took the lead early, then controlled the play. After that, Frankfurt came into the game better and had one or two half chances and dangerous set pieces. We came out of the break well and did a lot of things right but couldn’t get the second goal. The equaliser came from a brilliant strike, but we didn’t defend it well. The goal gave Frankfurt a bit more momentum, but we had three or four chances and should have scored the second goal. We then got a bit lucky right at the end; all in all, we’ll take the point. It's just frustrating that we couldn't put the game beyond doubt earlier. Of course, Frankfurt are full of self-confidence at the moment and their atmosphere is sensational. When you're doing well, your energy doesn't fade as much. However, we countered that today with our play and fighting spirit throughout the entire game.

Jonas Hofmann: I don't think anyone would complain about the point. Our big shortcoming today was that we didn't take our chances, especially in the second half. If we had scored the second goal, we would have put the game to bed but we didn’t manage it. We were lacking that final bit of conviction. The mood has been very up and down in recent weeks, but it has to be said that we as a team are the ones to blame because our performances have been lacking consistency. We’re getting good wins then losing the next week after going there to get three points. So you can understand why people ask questions. We want to get the three points next week in front of our home fans, end the season on a positive note and go into the off season on the back of a win.

Head coach Adi Hütter: If you look at the scoring chances over the 90 minutes, we should have won. Breel Embolo had a big chance to make it 2-0 at the start of the second half. After that, Oliver Glasner brought on a few more of his regular starters from the bench and life got a bit more difficult for us. Goncalo Paciencia then equalised with a brilliant shot, and towards the end of the game we could have lost with a bit of bad luck. But overall, it was a good game. Of course, we would have liked to win. I wish Oliver Glasner and Eintracht all the best for the Europa League final.

Frankfurt head coach Oliver Glasner: I am very pleased today. Before the game I said that not everything would be perfect because of the circumstances we’re in, and a lot of things were definitely not perfect. But I think the players showed great will and great character. We struggled to get into the game and went behind, but we got stronger from the back and towards the end of the game, I think we were the ones who came closer to winning. I’d say the game is a good reflection of our season.
