“The right decision for both parties” - #BMGTSG reaction

We gathered the thoughts from the players and coaches after Borussia's 5-1 win over Hoffenheim in the season finale, as well as the reaction to Adi Hütter's departure.

Jonas Hofmann: We scored our goals at the right moments and took our chances clinically. Both teams set up well and worked the ball around nicely at times. Winning today in front of an almost packed house with beautiful weather was a good way to end the season. It was important to show the fans that we were determined to keep giving everything and not just let the season peter out. The scenes out on the pitch after the match showed that we are united. Statistically, I think it was probably my best season, but I’m too demanding to say that myself in terms of how I played.  I always want more and am rarely happy with myself, but I suppose I can be happy with my goal tally. As a team, we didn’t achieve the goals we set ourselves at the start of the season. We can only blame ourselves for never producing that consistency. It was important to the coach to tell us about his departure personally. He gave everyone a hug and found the right words. It’s never nice when a coach tells you that they’re leaving. I wish him all the best.

Sporting director Roland Virkus: The talks with Adi Hütter were open, honest, respectful and productive. We all agree that this is the right decision for both parties. Our task is to now draw the correct conclusions from our analysis of the season and implement the right measures in order to ensure that we have a new set-up in place at the end of June to prepare for the new season.

Adi Hütter: It’s nice to get a 5-1 win in front of an almost sell-out crowd here at home on the final day. It was a lot of fun and we thoroughly deserved to win. We were a little lucky not to got 2-0 down early on though. It was important to get ourselves 3-1 ahead before half time. We played some great football after that. Today was my last day as Borussia Mönchengladbach head coach. After several intense and respectful discussions, we have mutually agreed to part ways.

Hoffenheim head coach Sebastian Hoeneß: I’m extremely disappointed and frustrated. We give it to them on a plate. We can here with a very thin squad – we don’t have any other options available to us. It overshadows our season, which was really good for two-thirds of it – we played some brilliant football and got some fantastic results. Now we will look back on two very disappointing months.
