Hofmann: “A great honour for me”

Jonas Hofmann speaks about yesterday’s Nations League match at BORUSSIA-PARK, his current red-hot form, Borussia’s new head coach Daniel Farke and how things are going on a personal level.

Jonas, you featured in yesterday’s 5-2 win over Italy at BORUSSIA-PARK. How would you assess this match?

Hofmann: It was really important for us to get the win after three draws from our first three Nations League matches. We have put ourselves in a good position to maybe go on and win the group in the last two matches in September. Celebrating this highly-deserved win at a sold-out BORUSSIA-PARK made it all the more special.

With four appearances, two goals and two assists, you have been one of the stand-out players in the four Nations League matches…

Hofmann: It’s gone really well for me on a personal level. It’s been a great honour for me to play in all four Nations League matches so far and I even started three of the games. This has been something pretty special. I gave it my all in each game and I was rewarded with two goals and two assists. I would of course be very happy if it continues like this in the new season.

In the meantime, Daniel Farke has been appointed as Borussia’s new head coach. What do you think about this appointment?

Hofmann: I am delighted that Borussia found a new head coach so quickly. I know Daniel from my time in Dortmund, where he was the coach of the U23s. I wasn’t coached by him back then but we got to know each other. He is a great guy and I am convinced that he is a great appointment for Borussia Mönchengladbach.

What are your plans now, are you going on holiday?

Hofmann: I’ll spend a couple of days at home and then I’m flying to Mallorca to relax and recharge my batteries. Then it’s back to the training ground with Borussia for the training camp.

Your contract situation has been talked about a lot recently. Have you been in touch with Roland Virkus?

Hofmann: First things first- I’m going on holiday. When I am back I will sit down with him and discuss it.
