"We were a real force" - Match reaction after #SVOBMG

After the Foals’ 9-1 victory in the first round of the DFB-Pokal against fifth division side SV Oberachern, we’ve rounded up the reactions from Christoph Kramer, Joe Scally and both teams’ head coaches.

Christoph Kramer: I always enjoy the charm of the first round of the cup – such occasions are always great for all involved. We prepared intensively for this match, and we saw our rewards with the first goal. In terms of set-up, compliments to the opponent, Oberachern did it well. We are happy to progress to the next round, and I believe the opposition are pleased too, as they played a great game. That’s what the first round is there for. We’ll be going into the new week in high spirits.

Joe Scally: I am very happy – it was a deserved victory. Every game in the DFB-Pokal is a difficult one, so we made sure to approach our task with the necessary respect for the opponent by taking it fully seriously, and we were successful. I’m very pleased with my goal, and it’s always a nice feeling to be able to help the team. Now we can look ahead to our Bundesliga opener against Hoffenheim on Saturday in full confidence.

Head coach Daniel Farke: We are very happy to be in the next round of the Pokal. Of course, we were the favourite going into this one, but the first round is never an easy or comfortable affair – you can see that from the results of some of the other matches.  It is the match of the year for these opponents, playing against such a big favourite always brings a high level of motivation and thrill. I think we put in a great performance against opponents who worked really hard and got stuck in, but we were a real force in the first half, scoring six times even before the break. We kept that hunger in the second half and ultimately delivered an excellent all-round performance.  A huge compliment to SV Oberachern, though, they played boldly and courageously, scoring a fantastic goal. I think it was a successful day for everyone involved.

SV Oberachern head coach Fabian Himmel: Purely from the result, it was a real lesson for us today – but in a positive sense. The boys left absolutely everything out there today, and we can take away so much from this game. And despite the score I’m extremely proud of my players. They gave it all they could and tried to get started quickly and to play courageous football. Today, we wanted to bring our brand of football to the pitch, and we managed that for long stretches of the game with the resources that Gladbach gave us.

Head coach Daniel Farke was very pleased with his team's performance.
