Jonas Hofmann extends at Borussia until 2025

Borussia Mönchengladbach have extended Jonas Hofmann’s contract, which was set to run out in 2023, until 30th June 2025. The deal includes an option to extend by an additional year.

“Jonas has become one of the faces of the team during his six and a half years with us,” said sporting director Roland Virkus. “He has undergone a tremendous development here – first to become a regular starter and a leader for us, and then also cementing himself within the Germany national team. We are very happy that we have been able to convince Jonas to remain at Borussia.” Hofmann joined the Foals in January 2016 from Borussia Dortmund, and has since featured in 182 competitive games for the side (36 goals, 40 assists).

In 2021/22, the attacking midfielder experience his best campaign yet with the Foals. He featured in 28 competitive games (26x Bundesliga, 2x DFB-Pokal), scoring 12 goals (a new personal best) and setting up a further six. Across all competitions last season, Hofmann was involved in every third goal for Borussia on average. He scored three hat-tricks (vs. Greuther Fürth, RB Leipzig and TSG Hoffenheim), with all three coming at home. ‘Hoffi’ has continued his strong form this season, scoring a brace and contributing an assist to the 9-1 cup win against SV Oberachern. He then helped to create two goals in the 3-1 win against Hoffenheim on the opening weekend of Bundesliga action. Ramy Bensebaini scored an overhead kick from a headed flick-on from Ko Itakura after a corner from Hofmann to equalise, before the midfielder combined with Christoph Kramer to find Alassane Plea to make it 3-1.

During his time at Borussia, Hofmann also made his senior Germany bow. His debut came in a friendly against Turkey in October 2020 (3-3), and he has since gone on to pick up 13 caps for his country. He was in the squad for UEFA EURO 2020, but didn’t make an appearance due to a knee injury.
