“We can live with the point” – #SCFBMG reaction

We heard from the players and coaches following Borussia’s 0-0 draw with SC Freiburg on Sunday evening.

Julian Weigl: All in all, a draw is a fair result. The personnel changes weren’t a major problem; everyone knew their job as we had worked hard on it in training. We played well and had the slightly better chances. I think the game would have opened up a little more for us if we had taken one of them. Freiburg upped the pressure a little after the break, but we defended well. We can live with the point – we put in a good performance and it’s one we can build on.

Lars Stindl: We played well, particularly in the first half – we were well organised. We had two good chances to take the lead. Freiburg had the odd opportunity as well, but only because of little lapses in concentration from ourselves. We didn’t really get going again after the change of ends. We just weren’t very tidy with our play. I think we defended really well again in spite of the changes we had to make. We fought off everything they brought and deserved to come away with a point.

Christoph Kramer: I think the organisation between the back-four was good. If you can play holding midfield, I think that you can play centre-back too. I think we were strong up until the 65th minute. We had the game under control and it felt like we were on top. There were just two or three moments where the pass in the final third didn’t quite come off. We started to drop too deep after the hour mark and opened up space on the wings. We still defended well until the end though. I feel like we needed to be five or ten yards higher up in the last 30 minutes, but it was still a good performance overall.

Daniel Farke: I couldn’t be much happier in terms of our performance. Despite missing three of our regular starters, we were the dominant side in the first half and created a number of chances. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to take the lead. We had to be attentive in defence in the second half, and we were exactly that. Our position play wasn’t as sharp in the second half so we struggled to create goalscoring opportunities, but that’s normal when you have so many personnel changes. We kept a clean sheet against the league leaders and picked up a point. It looks like Florian Neuhaus may have suffered a cruciate ligament injury. Hopefully he'll be lucky and the official diagnosis is something less serious.

SC Freiburg head coach Christian Streich: It was a tough game. Gladbach played with a lot of versatility. We had two or three moments in the first half where we won the ball in good positions, so it’s a shame that we couldn’t make the most of that. Borussia could easily have taken the lead during that phase though too. Our mentality was very strong in the second half and played with a lot of conviction against a good Gladbach side. My team gave it everything and tried their hardest to get the win, which is fantastic following on from a difficult Europa League game on Thursday.
