Borussia’s loanees convincing with their current clubs

Borussia currently have three players out on loan. We explain how centre-back Jordan Beyer and both keepers Moritz Nicolas and Jonas Kersken have got on in the first half of the season.

Jordan Beyer (FC Burnley, English Championship)

Jordan Beyer has developed into a regular starter for FC Burnley during his time in England’s second division and has been a significant factor in the Lancashire side’s climb to the top of the table ahead of the World Cup. Since his switch at the start of September, the 22-year-old has played 10 of Burnley’s 14 games this season, playing the full 90 minutes in five of those games.

Beyer, who has also played for Germany’s U21s in the first half of the season, was recently on the end of his first and only defeat with the club. In the games of which he has played in up until that defeat, Beyer had experienced seven wins and two draws. Matches in the Championship will restart on December 11th as there are still three match days to be played for the first half of the season.

Moritz Nicolas (Roda Kerkrade, Dutch 2nd Division)

Roda Kerkrade are already the fourth stop that Moritz Nicolas has made as a loanee for the Foals, but the first abroad. Whilst he was with Union Berlin and VfL Osnabrück, he was almost exclusively sat on the bench, but he was a regular in the previous season with third division side Viktoria Köln. He played a total of 31 times for them.

This time on loan is paying off for the 25-year-old. In the first two matches with the Dutch side, he wasn’t called on to protect the net. However, Nicolas then played in all of the subsequent twelve league games. He has conceded a total of 19 goals in that time with Roda lying in 8th position in the league table after 16 games. That position would be enough to secure a playoff place in the race for promotion.

Jonas Kersken (SV Meppen, German 3rd Division)

Jonas Kersken’s loan move to third division side SV Meppen looks like a fantastic decision so far. The 22-year-old immediately took hold of the starting position in the box and was the starter for the first ten league games. As a result of his convincing performances, the shot-stopper has contributed to SV Meppen staying out of the bottom three. At the start of October, however, Kersken suffered a tear to the posterior cartilage area of his shoulder and has been working on his return to fitness back at BORUSSIA-PARK ever since.

Without his help, head coach Stefan Krämer's team has slipped to second-last place in the table. With Kersken, the SVM gained eleven points from ten games, without him only two points from seven games. Kersken is hoping to be fit enough to return when the 3rd league restarts on 15 January.
