"We showed a different side to ourselves today"

Lars Stindl, Jonas Hofmann and head coaches Daniel Farke and Andre Breitenreiter react to Borussia’s 4-1 win against TSG Hoffenheim.

Lars Stindl: It was an extremely important win for us. We showed a different side to ourselves today compared to in Augsburg, where we didn’t manage to perform the way we wanted to. If we play like we did today, then it increases our odds of being successful. We kept our shape in the first half and took a deserved 2-0 lead into the break. We struggled a bit midway through the second half, but overall it was a deserved win for us. We had to wait a long time for our first away win, so we’re very happy to have finally gotten one.

Jonas Hofmann: It was high time that we finally get three points away from home. I think the result was fully deserved. We delivered a fantastic performance as a team. In my opinion, we did a great job in the first half. Both of Lars’ assists were incredible passes. We’ve seen it before that he has a knack for things like that. We may have been a bit more defensive in the second half due to the scoreline, but we did well and didn’t allow them many chances. We closed up shop at the back at the right moments. We’re very happy with the result.

Head coach Daniel Farke: It was a good day for us. When you come out of such a long winter break with two defeats, it’s obviously not satisfactory. The boys delivered and played a great game on the road. We did exactly what we didn’t manage to in Augsburg. We were very solid against the ball and creative when we had possession. When a team like TSG manage to press and create chances, then it’s possible for the game to change course quickly. I was very happy with the reaction from my team. It’s a big win, but it was still a close game. We deserved to win today, especially after managing such a performance after three games in six days.

Head coach André Breitenreiter (TSG Hoffenheim): Gladbach went 1-0 up out of nowhere, playing the ball long after we’d had a shot on goal. We then missed a clear-cut opportunity immediately afterwards. That was representative of how things went for us today. We created several clear-cut chances in the second half, but failed to use them. Our goal gave us some hope, but conceding immediately afterwards killed it off. It was all over after that. It’s very disappointing for us.
