Borussia extends with Jan Olschowsky

Borussia Mönchengladbach have extended the contract of Goalkeeper Jan Olschowsky. The 21-year-old will now be with the club until 30th June 2027.

“Jan has been with us since the U9s and in the first half of the season he fulfilled the dream of many younger players by making his Bundesliga debut.  He has proven at the highest level, whether it’s in training or in a game, that he is a real talent and that we can completely rely upon him. We are convinced that he can develop in the best possible way with us,” explained sporting director Roland Virkus.

Jan Olschowsky is indeed a true Foal. In 2009, he was invited for a trial at Gladbach when he was a nine year old keeper at SV Glehn. He made a great impression right from the off and he is now into his 14th season at the club. On 13th October 2018, He made his debut for the U23s against SV Straelen when he was just 16-years-old, becoming the youngest Borussia player to feature in the Regionalliga West. It was back then when he took part in first team training for the first time and he managed to get some game time in the friendlies at a training camp as a 17-year-old.

Bundesliga debut in Bochum

In 2020, the shot-stopper received his first professional contract. Since then, he has continued to work with a lot of focus everyday with one eye on fulfilling the his dream of making his Bundesliga debut. “If I get subbed on, it would obviously be unbelievably cool to start with a penalty save. That would be like something out a storybook,” said Olschowsky back in 2021. “But really, I just want to have a solid game. A game that the coach, my teammates, but also the supporters see and think: You can trust him. That’s the most important thing.”

The 20-year-old has (still) not saved a penalty, but he fulfilled the second part of his wish in first of this season, both in the 2-1 loss to Bochum as well as the 4-2 win against Dortmund. The keeper has also made eleven appearances for Borussia’s U23s in the Regionalliga this season, taking his total number of Regionalliga West appearances to 73.
