#BMGFCB match reaction

We gathered the thoughts of the players and coaches after Borussia’s narrow 2-1 defeat to FC Bayern on Saturday night.

Julian Weigl: When you put that much effort in, it’s hard to be on the wrong end of the scoreline. We showed a very different side to us compared to the Leverkusen match and were in front for much of the game. Bayern’s pressure in the second half was immense. Unlike the first half, we were unable to have phases of possession and create chances. Nevertheless, we defended as a team and everyone continued to put in the yards. We just switched off for a split second for both goals and Bayern are the kind of side that will punish that, so it’s a shame that we’ve ended up empty-handed today.

Rocco Reitz: It was my first game at a sold-out BORUSSIA-PARK against FC Bayern of all sides. Our fans really gave us a boost. Despite the result, it’s the best experience of my life so far. I think I had goosebumps for 90 minutes. It’s a shame that we conceded twice even though we defended incredibly as a team throughout the match.

Moritz Nicolas: I was really excited to get the chance to play, but obviously I’m disappointed not to have come away with a point. Our goalkeeping team prepared me for the game well. Tobi Sippel, who I’ve been working with for a while now, gave me some good advice. I’m really thankful to have been given that support. I’d be lying if I said I was completely relaxed before the game. Of course I was more nervous than normal, because it's such a big occasion. Once the game started, I was focused as normal and tried to concentrate on myself and the team.

Gerardo Seoane: It’s a tough one for us tonight. We come away from the game with mixed feelings. On the one hand, we’re disappointed not to have gotten a result, but on the other, we made life very difficult for Bayern; we gave them a good battle and showed real commitment with our defending. Just like against Leverkusen, their goals game from a chip ball in behind our defence and a set piece – that can’t be happening. Nevertheless, I have to give credit to the team today. Disappointment is the overwhelming feeling, but I think we will be able to look back at this performance with pride tomorrow.

FC Bayern head coach Thomas Tuchel: It was a very much hard work, but that’s what is needed. We deserved to win; we didn’t get fazed and had good energy. If we play with that intensity, both we as a coaching team and the players will have a lot of fun.
