Player of the Season nominees: Franck Honorat

Franck Honorat, Rocco Reitz, Robin Hack and Moritz Nicolas have all been nominated for our Player of the Season for 2023/24, presented by Cichon Personalmanagement. Today, we’ll be taking a closer look at our number 9’s season.

Franck Honorat is one of four Foals nominated for our Player of the Season 2024/24 award. The Frenchman joined Borussia from Stade Brestois in the summer of 2023, after which it didn't take long before he had made a name for himself and earned his place as a regular starter for the side.

The 27-year-old netted five goals and made 13 assists over 35 competitive fixtures last season, striking home three goals and having a hand in eleven to crown him as the Gladbach player with the most goal involvements. The midfielder is particularly gifted in the set-piece department. In the campaign just past, Gladbach found the back of the net a league-best of twelve times from corners, eight of which were delivered by Honorat. The Foals’ number 9 also put in the league's third-highest number of successful crosses in the 2023/24 season (73), with only Bochum’s Kevin Stöger (78) and Heidenheim’s Jan-Niklas Beste (74) trumping his record. In total, Franck set up an impressive 89 shots in the most recent campaign.

Matchday 11 was certainly a stand-out moment of the winger's 23/24 season, as he bagged his first ever Bundesliga goal in the 4-0 victory against Wolfsburg in front of the fans at BORUSSIA-PARK. Franck powered a rocket towards the VfL net at a staggering speed of 127km/h, the fastest shot to hit the target in last season’s Bundesliga, which rightfully earned him a spot in Kicker’s team of the week. The midfielder proceeded to receive the same recognition for his impressive performance on matchday 23, when the Foals inflicted a 5-2 defeat on VfL Bochum.

Franck Honorat is in the running for the award alongside his teammates Rocco Reitz, Robin Hack and Moritz Nicolas. You can vote now for your pick in the ‘Umfrage’ section of the FohlenApp until Sunday, 2nd June at 23:59 CEST.

Franck Honorat set up eight goals from corners in the 23/24 season.
