Voting now open for November player of the month

Alassane Plea, Lars Stindl, Christoph Kramer, Breel Embolo and Florian Neuhaus are the nominees for November’s player of the month award, brought to you by Borussia and Cichon Personalmanagement. You can now vote for your choice on the FohlenApp.

The Foals’ November schedule featured three matches in the Bundesliga and another two in the UEFA Champions League. In five matches, Borussia had five different players collect the ‘Man of the Match’ award. Alassane Plea was the clear choice after the comfortable 6-0 win against Shakhtar Donetsk in Kiev, while Lars Stindl’s two goals earned him the honour in the narrow 4-3 defeat in Leverkusen. Christoph Kramer was ‘Man of the Match’ in the 1-1 Bundesliga draw with Augsburg before Breel Embolo picked up the award in another victory over Shakhtar (4-0). In our most recent match, a 4-1 league win over Schalke, it was Florian Neuhaus who earned the coveted title.

You can now choose between these five players for the November player of the month award. Voting is open on the Fohlen app and will close at midnight on Thursday.

Alassane Plea: The Frenchman starred in the outstanding 6-0 win over Shakhtar in Kiev with three goals and an assist. There were no surprises in the ‘Man of the Match’ vote that evening with 87 percent of voters naming the striker as the pick of the bunch. Plea put the Foals ahead after just eight minutes and added a second goal before the first half was up to make it 3-0 to Borussia. The 27-year-old selflessly laid on Lars Stindl to score our fifth before completing his hat-trick with the final goal of the game in the 78th minute. “It’s incredible when you score three goals as a striker,” said Marco Rose after the game. “Lasso has the quality to do extraordinary things out on the pitch. For him it’s now about staying healthy and continuing the good form.”

Lars Stindl: Borussia’s captain put the Foals ahead twice in Leverkusen, but in the end neither of his goals brought any tangible reward. He opened the scoring with a coolly converted penalty before his turn-and-finish later gave the Foals a 2-1 lead. Stindl was sadly unable to properly celebrate his goals after the final whistle as Gladbach fell to a 4-3 defeat. “Unfortunately my goals were worthless this time since we lost the match,” said Stindl, who was named as ‘Man of the Match’ by 47 percent of voters. That was enough for him to finish ahead of Valentino Lazaro, the runner-up with 37 percent of votes.

Christoph Kramer: Christoph Kramer has been showcasing his qualities for several weeks now. Against Augsburg (1-1), it was only the result that was missing from a complete performance by the midfielder. The 29-year-old ran over twelve kilometres, completed 93% of his passes and won 89% of his duels. “In the last few weeks, Chris has shown why he is a world champion – especially in the Champions League,” said Rose. “How he has dug in and led the team on the European stage has been outstanding.” Gladbach fans agreed, naming Kramer as ‘Man of the Match’ (42 percent of votes) for his display alongside Neuhaus in defensive midfield against Augsburg.

Breel Embolo: The Swiss broke his duck in the 4-0 cruise against Shakhtar Donetsk. Not only did Embolo put the Foals 3-0 to the good with a spectacular bicycle kick, but he also netted his first goal of the 2020/21 season. With Borussia putting in another outstanding team performance, the 23-year-old won a close ‘Man of the Match’ race with only 37 percent of the vote, probably aided by the beauty of his goal. Embolo was involved in plenty of other attacks and also hit the post shortly before his goal.

Florian Neuhaus: The 23-year-old is in scintillating form right now, something which was evident again in the 4-1 win over Schalke as he gave the Foals an early 1-0 lead (15’). Neuhaus wasn’t discouraged by Schalke’s equaliser and created the chance for Oscar Wendt to restore the lead soon after (36’). Not only did Neuhaus contribute to two goals, but he was also excellent throughout the match, securing 51 percent of votes on the Fohlen app and taking home the ‘Man of the Match’ award. “Flo has been playing at a really high level for months now,” said head coach Rose. “In the first half-hour he was a little nervous and gave the ball away cheaply once or twice. After that he worked his way into the game really well, as did the whole team. I’m happy to have a guy like him in our ranks.”
