Joe Scally settles in at BORUSSIA-PARK

Joseph ‘Joe’ Scally is now officially a Borussia player and has arrived in Mönchengladbach. The 18-year-old right-back will join team training next week.

Joe Scally celebrated his 18th birthday on 31st December and officially became a Foal a day later. The right-back, whose move from New York City FC to Gladbach was announced in November 2019, has now arrived in Mönchengladbach and has an apartment at BORUSSIA-PARK after a corona test. The new signing completed various medical and sporting tests on Tuesday and the plan is for the American to join team training next week. “As a child, you dream of playing in one of Europe’s top five leagues,” said Scally. “Playing in Germany is like a dream, so I couldn’t be happier. I’m pleased to be here and I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead.”

Youngest player to make the starting XI

Scally, who was born in Lake Groove in New York joined the New York City FC youth academy at the age of 13, going on to win several titles with their youth sides. Scally signed his first professional contract in March 2018 (aged 15) to become the second-youngest player in the history of the MLS to sign a pro deal behind Freddy Adu. He made his first-team debut in 2017/18 during a 4-0 loss at New York Red Bulls in the fourth round of the U.S. Open Cup, replacing David Villa in the 57th minute. The 18-year-old went on to make four appearances in the MLS and, in September, became the youngest player to start a game for New York. Scally also played once in the CONCACAF Champions League and in the first round of the MLS Cup playoffs.

Joseph 'Joe' Scally is now officially a Foal.
