Facts and stats ahead of #BMGBVB

Everything you need to know ahead of the Foals’ Bundesliga home game against Borussia Dortmund on Friday evening (20:30 CET).

Spectators:

  • Under the current coronavirus measures being enforced by the state and federal governments, all professional sporting events must take place behind closed doors. As such, no spectators will be permitted to attend the game between Borussia Mönchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund at BORUSSIA-PARK.

Pre-match:

  • Borussia will no longer be playing the stadium anthem “Die Seele brennt” ahead of home games until further notice. The reason behind this decision is an ongoing legal claim submitted by the songwriters. The song will not be used while the legal proceedings are still taking place.

Head-to-head record:

  • This will be the 98th Bundesliga meeting between the two sides. The record so far stands at 40 wins for Dortmund and 29 for the Foals, with 28 games ending as draws.
  • The Foals have lost all of their last eleven Bundesliga games against BVB. The last time VfL scored against Dortmund was on 11th April in a 3-1 loss when the side from North Rhine-Westphalia were still being coached by Lucien Favre. This is Borussia’s longest losing streak against another club.
  • There has not been a single goalless draw between Dortmund and Mönchengladbach in the past 50 competitive meetings between the clubs. The last time this fixture ended 0-0 was in April 1994 in Mönchengladbach.

Statistics – provided by UNIBET:

  • The Foals have lost none of their matches so far in 2021, winning three games and drawing 2-2 against Stuttgart. Ten points is the joint-best tally so far this year along with Eintracht Frankfurt.
  • Tuesday's home victory against Bremen marked the first time Marco Rose’s team have recorded two home wins in a row this season. These two wins were preceded by four draws at BORUSSIA-PARK. The Foals have only lost one of their last 12 Bundesliga matches at home – a 2-1 defeat to Hoffenheim on matchday 13.
  • The Foals’ answer to Dortmund top scorer Erling Haarland is captain Lars Stindl, who has netted nine goals so far this season, including five penalties. The last player to score more Hinrunde goals in a VfL shirt was Marco Reus in the 2010/11 season with ten.
  • BVB have picked up a total of 29 points so far this season, one less than last season and 13 less than two years ago.
  • Dortmund have failed to win two games in a row for the first time under coach Edin Terzic and suffered their sixth defeat of the season in Leverkusen. The last time BVB had this many losses at the halfway point was in 2014/15 under Jürgen Klopp when they lost ten.
  • Nico Elvedi headed in the winner against Werder from a free kick, which was the Foals 13th goal of the season from a set-piece, the highest in the league. Dortmund have netted six from a dead-ball situation (4 corners and 2 penalties), but have conceded 8 times from set-pieces.
