Matchday 32 in the Bundesliga ended in a heavy 6-0 defeat for Borussia Mönchengladbach in their away trip to FC Bayern München.
The newly crowned Bundesliga champions made the perfect start at the Allianz Arena as Robert Lewandowski fired a low shot into the back of the net inside two minutes. Borussia soon got organised though and grew into the game, with Marcus Thuram forcing a first save out of Manuel Neuer (15’). Then an unfortunate moment opened the door for Bayern to extend their lead. Ramy Bensebaini was leading a promising counterattack for the Foals, but an accidental trip allowed the home side to go down the other end and Thomas Müller’s deflected strike left Yann Sommer helpless (23’). A third goal followed in the 34th minute, this time coming from a piece of individual brilliance via a Lewandowski bicycle kick, before Kingsley Coman rounded off a breakaway on the stroke of half time to make it 4-0 (44’).
Marco Rose made a couple of changes at the break to try and change the flow of the game and new man Alassane Plea did come close with an effort shortly after the restart. Bensebaini was also inches away from getting on the end of a pass in behind, but Neuer was quicker to it and smothered the ball. Meanwhile, Sommer had to make a flurry of saves to keep Bayern out, only for them to be wiped out by a VAR intervention, spotting a Florian Neuhaus handball in the build-up. Robert Lewandowski stepped up and converted to complete his hat-trick (65’). The best opening for Gladbach saw Embolo brought down by last man Tanguy Nianzou, with the Bayern substitute shown a red card with 15 minutes to go. It was too late to change the outcome of course, in fact, Bayern were able to add a sixth late on through Leroy Sané to compound a miserable evening in Munich for the Foals.

There was just one change to the side that beat Arminia Bielefeld prior to the weekend break, with Jonas Hofmann preferred to Hannes Wolf. Lars Stindl returned to the matchday squad following his spell on the sidelines, while Mamadou Doucouré (Achilles' tendon) and Torben Müsel (recovery training) unavailable through injury.
