Goalless draw between Foals

Austria and Slovakia drew 0-0 in Vienna in the final round of warm-up games ahead of EURO 2020. Two Foals featured in the game.

Stefan Lainer was rested as planned by Austria head coach Franco Foda while László Bénes began from the bench for Slovakia. That meant that Valentino Lazaro (photo: imago images/GEPA pictures) was the only Foal who found himself in the starting line-up for the match. The 25-year-old was a busy presence on the right wing although he lacked a certain penetration, as did the rest of his teammates. Clear-cut chances were hard to come by during the match. Bénes was thrown on by the visitors shortly before the end, but the man on loan at FC Augsburg was unable to make an impact in his few minutes on the pitch.

Heading for camp

Lainer, Lazaro & co. can enjoy a day off with their families on Monday before they make the trip to the camp in Seefeld where Austria will be training from Wednesday on. On Saturday, the squad will fly from Innsbruck to Bucharest for their opening game against North Macedonia the following day (18:00 CEST). Slovakia, meanwhile, will be heading back to the nearby Windischgarsten before moving on to their base in St. Petersburg, Russia, where they will begin their EURO 2020 campaign against Poland (Monday, 18:00 CEST).

Bensebaini and Algeria triumph

Ramy Bensebaini was also in action as he played another friendly match for Algeria. The North Africans followed up a 4-1 win over Mauritania with a 1-0 win against Mali. Bensebaini, a late substitute in the first fixture, played the full 90 minutes this time around. Riyad Mahrez scored the winning goal after 54 minutes. On Friday (14:00 CEST), Algeria will play their final match of the season away to Tunisia.
