Borussia suffer 6-0 defeat at home to Freiburg

The final game of matchday 14 in the Bundesliga saw the Foals handed a 6-0 defeat at home to SC Freiburg, with all six goals coming in the first half.

The Foals were well-beaten in front of just over 10,000 spectators at BORUSSIA-PARK. Maximilian Eggestein opened the scoring for the guests after just 84 seconds, with Kevin Schade doubling the advantage three minutes later. A defensively sub-par Foals side could not stop conceding goals, another four being added by Philipp Lienhart (12’), Nicolas Höfler (19’), Lucas Höler (25’) and Nico Schlotterbeck (37’). The damage was done before half time – the Baden-Württemberg side largely protected their clean sheet in the second half, and Borussia could not create any more notable chances. The game finished 6-0 and the first home defeat of the season was confirmed.

TEAM NEWS

Borussia head coach Adi Hütter made two changes from the side which started the derby against Köln, as Stefan Lainer and Marcus Thuram came in for Patrick Herrmann and Lars Stindl. The back-three in front of Yann Sommer consisted of Matthias Ginter, Nico Elvedi and Ramy Bensebaini. The wing-backs were Lainer on the right, and Joe Scally on the left. Manu Koné and Denis Zakaria took to central midfield, behind a front-three of Jonas Hofmann, Marcus Thuram and Alassane Plea.

The Foals were without Jordan Beyer (thigh), Tony Jantschke (facial injury) and Mamadou Doucouré (recovery from Achilles).
