Match facts ahead of #BMGB04

Everything you need to know ahead of the upcoming home game against Bayer Leverkusen (Saturday, 15th January, 18:30 CET).

  • Due to the ongoing pandemic, only 750 fans are permitted to attend the game at BORUSSIA-PARK. Half of this capacity will go to VIP boxes, with the other half in blocks 9, 10 and 11 in the east stand.

Head-to-head record:

  • Borussia and Bayer have faced off 79 times so far in the Bundesliga. The Werkself have won 31 of these clashes compared to 22 Gladbach victories. The points have been shared in the other 26 games.
  • There has been a winner in each of the last 14 meetings – Leverkusen have won each of the last four after Borussia had enjoyed three straight victories prior to that. The last draw between these sides was in 2014 (1-1 draw in Leverkusen on 14th December).
  • This fixture has always been good for goals in the past, averaging 3.35 goals per game in the Bundesliga. Bayer have scored 150 times and Borussia have netted 115 goals. The last time these sides played out a goalless draw was in 2004 at the Bökelberg.

Statistics – presented by UNIBET:

  • The 2-1 win away to Bayern saw the Foals end their run of five games without a win. Adi Hütter’s side had lost four straight matches before ending 2021 with a 1-1 draw at Hoffenheim.
  • Gladbach remained unbeaten for the first six home games of this season, but have lost their last two at BORUSSIA-PARK (6-0 to Freiburg and 3-2 to Frankfurt).
  • Borussia’s strikers have only scored a combined four goals in the league this term. Florian Neuhaus’ equaliser at Bayern on matchday 18, however, was the 18th Bundesliga goal by a Gladbach midfielder in 2021/22.
  • Bayer are without a win in four consecutive games for the second time under Gerardo Seoane. This only previously happened from matchday 8 to 11.
  • Leverkusen went unbeaten for their first seven away matches this season, however they have lost their last two, conceding seven goals in the process.
  • Patrik Schick scored his 17th league goal of the season against Union Berlin despite only playing 15 matches – this is a club record after 18 matchdays.
  • Adi Hütter won the Swiss title in 2018 with Young Boys. His successor Gerardo Seoane then repeated the trick in 2019, 2020 and 2021.

  • Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the DFL will announce the officials on the day of the game.
