“This win will do us the world of good” - #BMGBSC reaction

We heard from the players and coaches after Borussia’s 2-0 win over Hertha BSC on Saturday evening.

Nico Elvedi: This win will do us the world of good, as will the clean sheet too. I think we dominated them in the first half and we could have had a greater lead. We defended well as a team in the second half and allowed them few chances. This was a big step in the right direction, but we can’t rest on our laurels now. We’ve still got some important games to come.

Jordan Beyer: Winning again at home is an extremely good feeling. We’ve had some tough weeks recently, so we’re just really happy with how today went. It was an important step, but our work is not done yet. We can build on this performance. We didn’t manage to defend as a unit in Stuttgart – we did that a lot better today. Everyone was committed to the cause and got stuck in. Having the fans there also gives us a boost. It was amazing to have 30,000 of them in the ground and that gave us a real push to perform well on the pitch.

Matthias Ginter: There was a lot riding on this game because of our positions in the table and you could see that both teams weren’t in the best of form coming into the match. We performed really well in the first half and deservedly took the lead. We didn’t quite manage to press them as high up the pitch after the break and didn’t keep them away from our goal as much. We had a bit of luck when they hit the bar. Overall though, we were good value for the win and the most important thing was getting the three points, which we’re really happy to have.

Christian Peintinger: The lads fought really hard in the first half and played with their hearts on their sleeves. We tried to control the game and played to our limit. We were a bit too passive after the break, but we got the second goal at the right time and then saw it home. We don’t have time to catch our breath now. We’ve got a lot of work to do still to secure our safety, which we’re know. We now need to build on this, play at this intensity and get some consistency into our game.

Hertha coach Tayfun Korkut: Gladbach put the pressure on in the first half, but we fought well and defended like we’d planned to. We were too sloppy on the ball though. We went behind after conceding a penalty, however the game was really open in the second half. The lads gave their all and still tried their best after their second goal, so I can’t criticise them. We had a few good moves and a couple of good opportunities to get back into the game. Things didn’t go our way and we therefore lost the game.
