“Happy to be taking home three points” – post-match reaction to #SGFBMG

Read all the post-match reaction from Matthias Ginter, Jonas Hofmann, Yann Sommer and head coaches Stefan Leitl and Adi Hütter, following today’s 2-0 win against Greuther Fürth.

Matthias Ginter: We played well during the first half, had a lot of chances and took a deserved 2-0 lead. In the second half, we lost control of the game a bit. Fürth made some tactical changes that we struggled to adjust to, but we were still solid at the back and barely allowed them any chances. In the end, all that matters is the three points, which we are very happy to be taking home with us. Alassane Plea and Marcus Thuram are of huge help to us as a team when they are fit, which we were able to see again today. We have climbed out from the bottom after taking 10 points from our last four games, and these two have played a huge part in that.

Jonas Hofmann: I’m happy to have made my comeback, and especially pleased that we won today. We played well during the first half, but then became a bit too passive after the break. In the end, all that matters is the fact that we won, which is very important for us. We don’t really need to worry about who's behind us in the table anymore, but can instead maybe focus on moving up a couple of places and ending the season strong. We will need to give it everything in the remaining games this season and pick up as many points as possible.

Yann Sommer: We got off to a strong start. During the first half, we created several chances and took a deserved 2-0 lead with us into the break. Overall, we dominated the majority of the match. As a goalkeeper, I enjoyed getting to watch fromt the back and to see how we play football. This was a very important win for us.

Head coach Adi Hütter: Looking at the game as a whole, it was a deserved win for us. I think that we witnessed two very different halves again today. We were the more dominant side during the first half, did well both in and out of possession and allowed them very few chances. Greuther Fürth proved their quality during the second half. If we had conceded, then things could have gotten interesting again. During this period of the game, we should have done better at seeing our counter-attacks through, and we also lost possession too easily. That was down to Greuther Fürth’s efforts on the one hand, but also because we lacked conviction in our passing. It’s not easy playing in Fürth, which is why I’m very happy that we are taking three points home with us.

Head coach Stefan Leitl (SpVgg Greuther Fürth): I’m disappointed with how we played in the first half, especially against the ball. We knew that we had to try to prevent Gladbach from playing long balls, but we weren’t as strong in the tackles as we wanted to be. We were too passive which allowed Gladbach to take a 2-0 lead into the break. We had two, three good moves in attack during the first half, and were a lot more active after the break. We had a couple of chances, but lacked that final touch to finish any of them off.
