László Bénes joins Hamburger SV

Midfielder László Bénes has left Borussia after six years and moved to 2. Bundesliga side Hamburger SV, where he has signed a deal until 2026.

“We’d like to thank Laci for his performances with Borussia and wish him every success at HSV,” said Borussia’s sporting director Roland Virkus. Bénes moved to Mönchengladbach in the summer of 2016 from Slovakian side MŠK Žilina – since then, the 24-year-old made 65 competitive appearances for the Foals, scoring two goals.

His first start, a win over Hertha BSC in April 2017, also saw him score the winner, his first Bundesliga goal. His second and final goal came in a 5-0 DFB-Pokal victory over SV Elversberg in the 2020/21 season.

In the 2018/19 campaign, Bénes moved to Holstein Kiel on loan for half a season, before another six-month loan move to FC Augsburg in 2020/21. Bénes made a total of 14 appearances in all competitions in 2021/22, coming off the bench in 11 of them.

Thanks for the last six years, and best of luck in Hamburg, Laci!
