Second win in second friendly as Foals thump 1860

Borussia Mönchengladbach rounded off their Tegernsee training camp with a resounding 6-0 win over TSV 1860 Munich on Sunday afternoon.

After a week’s hard work at the training camp at Tegernsee, Borussia were given a chance to test their preseason progress against the third-tier side from Munich. The Foals took command of the game after quarter of an hour and the goals soon followed. Jonas Hofmann (27‘), Yvandro Borges Sanches (34‘) and Lars Stindl (41‘) put Daniel Farke’s side into a comfortable 3-0 lead at the break. Herrmann was at the double after the restart, sandwiching a goal from Hannes Wolf to complete Gladbach’s six-goal victory.

TEAM NEWS

In what was his second friendly in charge of the club, Daniel Farke opted for a back-four of Simon Walde, Tom Gaal, Marvin Friedrich and Joe Scally ahead of goalkeeper Tobias Sippel. New signing Ko Itakura made his first Borussia appearance as a holding midfielder alongside Florian Neuhaus, while Jonas Hofmann, Lars Stindl and Yvandro Borges Sanches lined up behind lone striker Marcus Thuram. The boss made wholesale changes at half time, with new man between the sticks Moritz Nicolas protected by Stefan Lainer, Tony Jantschke, Itakura and Hannes Wolf. Christoph Kramer and Oscar Fraulo partnered up in midfield, while front man Breel Embolo was supported by Patrick Herrmann, Torben Müsel and Alassane Plea.

Farke was without Ramy Bensebaini (Covid-19) and Rocco Reitz (ill) for the meeting with the Lions, with neither at the training camp. Luca Netz, who tested positive for Covid earlier in the week has since returned to Mönchengladbach following a negative PCR result. Manu Koné (fitness), Jacob Italiano (thigh) and Jordan Beyer (muscle) were also unavailable.

FIRST-HALF HIGHLIGHTS

7’: A first good chance for the Foals. Thuram drives into the centre and fires at Hiller’s goal. The keeper parries the initial effort, and the rebound is fired over the top.

8’: Tallig tries his luck from distance but misses by some margin.

12’: Borges Sanches rounds off a well-worked attack by Thuram, but the Luxembourg youngster was offside and the goal is chalked off.

27’: Borussia open the scoring. A neat one-two with Stindl sees Hofmann in. He coolly rounds the goalkeeper and slots the ball into the empty net. 1-0 to Gladbach.

34’: Thuram is the architect of a neat attack and, although he is shut down, the ball lands at Borges Sanches’ feet on the edge of the box and he picks out the bottom corner. 2-0 to Gladbach.

36’: 1860 centre-back Verlaat forays forward and has a chance to shoot from inside ten yards, but his attempt is too central.

41’: Another for Borussia. Friedrich’s header is saved by Hiller, but Stindl gobbles up the rebound from close range. 3-0 to Gladbach.

SECOND-HALF HIGHLIGHTS

47’: Herrmann curls a free-kick beautifully over the wall and into the top corner. 4-0 to Gladbach.

66’: Breel Embolo’s shot is blocked by the 1860 goalkeeper, but Wolf is in the right place at the right time to follow it in. 5-0 to Gladbach.

70’: Wolf’s ball across is just missed in the centre by Embolo, but Herrmann manages to get there at full stretch beyond the back post and fire home under the crossbar. 6-0 to Gladbach.

87’: Fraulo works the ball over the Quizera on the left-hand side and his bending shot only narrowly slips wide of the goal.
