Borussia draw 1-1 with Waalwijk

Borussia came away from Velbert with a 1-1 draw against Dutch side Waalwijk in the penultimate friendly game of the pre-season.

It was a lively first half at the IMS Arena in Velbert, where 1,100 fans were in attendance. Borussia were the better side in the opening stages and Alassane Plea hit the post with just a few minutes on the clock. The visitors, however, took the lead with their first opportunity, when Daneels found the net in the 19th minute. It didn’t take the Foals long to respond, with Plea netting the equaliser with half an hour gone. It was a cagier affair after the break, with little action in front of goal. Captain Lars Stindl missed a glorious opportunity to give the Foals the lead in the 53rd minute, when he fired his penalty over the bar..

Borussia starting XI: Yann Sommer, Stefan Lainer, Marvin Friedrich, Ramy Bensebaini, Luca Netz, Ko Itakura, Florian Neuhaus, Patrick Herrmann, Lars Stindl, Torben Müsel, Alassane Plea.

30’: Borussia equalise: Friedrich plays the ball over the top to Plea, who controls it beautifully in between two defenders and slots the ball home with a tidy finish.

40’: A good attack from the Foals. Müssel finds Neuhas in the penalty area, who finds the side netting with his effort.

53:’ Plea is taken down by goalkeeper Vaessen in the box, but Stindl fires the resulting penalty over the bar.
