Facts and stats ahead of #RBLBMG

Here is everything you need to know ahead of the Bundesliga away game on Saturday afternoon (15:30 CET) against RB Leipzig.

Supporters

  • The Red Bull Arena (photo: DFL/Streubel) in Leipzig is sold-out for the game against the Foals (47,069 capacity). Around 4,400 Borussia fans are making the trip to support the team in Leipzig.

Head-to-head record

  • Borussia and RB Leipzig are meeting in the Bundesliga for the 14th time on Saturday. The head-to-head is in favour of the hosts, with RBL winning seven games, compared to three wins for the Foals and three further draws.
  • There have been 41 goals in the 13 Bundesliga games between RBL and Borussia up until now – with 23 for Leipzig and 18 for BMG. When the two teams play each other in the league there is an average of 3.15 goals-per-game.
  • Borussia achieved a clear 3-0 win in the previous game this season in Mönchengladbach. The Foals celebrated a deserved win, having had more shots, better chances to score and having been very strong in duels – it is the highest Borussia win against RBL. Jonas Hofmann scored a brace.

Number of the match: 6

  • Jonas Hofmann loves scoring against Leipzig. He has scored six times in nine Bundesliga games against RBL, scoring braces in his last two games against them. ‘Hoffi’ hasn’t scored as many times against any other Bundesliga side.

Statistics

  • The Foals average 1.5 points-per-game against the ‘Top 6’ in the Bundesliga in 2022/23, averaging only 1.2 points-per-game against teams in seventh place and below.
  • Borussia have collected 30 points in the previous 23 games this season, four more than they had at this point last season. Last season, Borussia then went on a run near the end of the season, collecting 19 points in eleven games from matchday 24 onwards.
  • Only Mainz’s Lee and Frankfurt‘s Kolo Muani (both 7) have more goal contributions in 2023 than Jonas Hofmann (6).
  • Having only lost once in their first 14 Bundesliga games under Marco Rose (their first game against Borussia), RBL have now lost two of their last four games in the Bundesliga. This means they have almost lost as many games as in the entirety of the first half of the season (3).
  • Emil Forsberg has recently scored in three Bundesliga games in a row for the first time. The Sweden international only scored in two of 20 Bundesliga games under former head coach Domenico Tedesco, but has already scored in seven out of 17 Bundesliga games under Marco Rose.

Officials

  • Dr. Matthias Jöllenbeck will referee the game, with Borussia winning against VfB Stuttgart earlier this season in another game he refereed. He will assisted on the sidelines by Guido Kleve and Jonas Weickenmeier, with Michael Bacher as the fourth official. The VAR officials are Tobias Stieler and Holger Henschel.
