We spoke to the coaches and players after the 3-0 defeat to VfL Wolfsburg on Sunday evening to hear their thoughts.
Matthias Ginter: We did not start the game well, in fact we completely slept through the first 25 minutes. We improved as the game went on and managed to create some good chances. It is very frustrating that we lost 3-0. I think we got a little complacent after our 2-1 win against Bayern and we could have performed much better today. We cannot let that happen. We need to analyse where things went wrong.
Vincenzo Grifo: It took us a good 25 minutes to get into the game. We played well up until half time and were in control. We created some good chances going forward and maybe we should have scored one or two goals. We gave it our all to get one back but our passing in the final third let us down today.
Dieter Hecking: The reasons why we lost today are obvious. We sat back for the first 25 minutes and Wolfsburg took advantage and we did not start putting in real effort until it was too late. We created a number of chances and it is a shame we did not manage to pull one back. The players did everything they could to try and get back into the game but it is hard to bounce back when you are 3-0 down. All in all, there are a lot of reasons why we lost today.
Max Eberl: We looked sluggish for the first 25 minutes. We were not aggressive enough and did not follow through with our game plan. Wolfsburg managed to get two early goals which made it difficult for us to get back into the game. We just couldn’t seem to convert our chances today. We need to play better than we did today when we face Schalke next weekend.
Wolfsburg head coach Martin Schmidt: We intended to get stuck in straightaway and that is exactly what we managed to do. We wanted to come back stronger from our defeat in Augsburg last week. We defended very well today and deserved to keep a clean sheet. We are a dangerous side going forward with plenty of players getting on the scoresheet this season.
