Borussia Mönchengladbach have extended the contract of full back Nico Elvedi until June 2021.
“We’re extremely happy that we’ll be able to keep working with Nico going forward,” said sporting director Max Eberl. “He has become one of our most important players, even though at 21-years-old he is also one of the youngest. He’s only missed one game this season and that was because he was suspended.” Nico Elvedi arrived at Borussia in 2015 from FC Zürich and has made 80 competitive appearances (64 Bundesliga games, 6 DFB-Pokal games, 10 Champions League games) since then for the Fohlenelf.
He made 31 appearances in his first season at the club, playing both in the centre and on the right side of the defense. Last season, he upped that number to 36. In this current campaign, Elvedi has pulled on the Borussia shirt a total of 21 times and become a real force in their defense. The only times Elvedi has not played in all 90 minutes were against Hamburger SV in the league and against Leverkusen in the cup. He scored his one and only goal to date for the foals in the derby against Cologne on matchday one of this season.
