Borussia have acquired the services of Andreas Poulsen from Denmark champions FC Midtjylland.
The 18-year-old defender has signed a five-year-deal at the club. “Andreas is a highly talented attack-minded left-back with pace who has already made the jump to professional football in Denmark,” said Borussia’s sporting director, Max Eberl. “Now, he wants to make the next step in his career here. We’re delighted he decided to join Borussia.”
Poulsen grew up in Ikast in Denmark and played for his local team Ikast KFUM. Later, he moved to FC Midtjylland’s academy. At age 17 on 1st December 2016, Andreas made his first team debut away at Silkeborg IF in the Danish top flight. Since then, he has made a further seven appearances for the first team, plying his trade mostly in the U19s and for FC Midtylland II.
Poulsen has been a mainstay in the Denmark national youth set-up for several years. On 21st October 2014, the left-back made the first of two appearances for Denmark U16s. A year later, Poulsen played for the U17s in the Open Nordic Cup and made a further 13 appearances for the U17s including three at the U17s European Championships in 2016. Poulsen made his debut for Denmark U18s on 1st September 2016 and, four months later, played for the U19s for the first time against Cyprus in January 2017. Since then, he has played 10 internationals for the U19s, scoring five goals in ten games.
