Borussia have signed right-back Michal Lang from FC Basel. The 27-year-old Switzerland international, currently on duty at the World Cup in Russia has agreed on a four-year contract with the Fohlenelf.
"Michael Lang is a fullback with great attacking drive and international experience. We are pleased to have acquired him at Borussia and wish him the best of luck for the coming challenges at the World Cup," said sporting director Max Eberl.
Lang has been playing at FC Basel since 2015, winning the Swiss championship in 2016 and 2017, as well as the Swiss cup in 2017. In December 2017 he was even voted the Super League’s ‘Player of the Year’. Last season, Lang made 34 league appearances for Basel plus eight in the Champions League, scoring eight goals in the process. He has 26 caps for Switzerland under his belt so far, including two at the current World Cup in Russia.
Lang is joining Borussia with quite the record in the Swiss league behind him: 272 games, 31, goals, 24 assists for St. Gallen, Grasshopper Club Zurich and FC Basel. On top of that, he has made 13 Champions League appearances and a total of 35 in all European competitions with six goals to his name. The 27-year-old is rated highly in Switzerland not just because of his footballing abilities, but also because of his leadership qualities and his professionalism.
