Despite scoring his penalty to make it 1-0, Gladbach lost 4-2 to Hertha BSC. We spoke with Thorgan Hazard about the defeat in the capital.
Thorgan, you put Borussia in the lead after 30 minutes yesterday. What went wrong afterwards?
Hazard: Maybe we scored a little bit too early and got a slightly over-confident. We should have concentrated more and been better defensively. Their equaliser and second goal came too quickly after our opener. We managed to come back into the game after going 3-1 down, but in general it was just too easy for Hertha. We need to be more aggressive and improve our tackling.
Why do you think the team failed to get a real grip on the game?
Hazard: I think we actually started the game well. I had a good chance early on and then scored the penalty. But overall we weren’t compact enough and didn’t work together as well as we had in previous games. We have to improve this in our next game against Frankfurt. I’m hopeful that we will be able to win again at home.
Frankfurt travel to BORUSSIA-Park on Wednesday. Do you think that a game so soon is a good thing?
Hazard: I do think that it will do us good, yes. If you win then it’s not too bad having to wait for the next game, but after losing a game you are constantly thinking about the defeat for too long. It’s now important to switch our focus to the next game.
What needs to be changed against Frankfurt?
Hazard: Obviously it will be a very difficult game. They have a very good side and games against teams like that are never easy. We have the home advantage though, so hopefully that’ll make a difference. We definitely have to play better than we did at Hertha. That means playing our own game and playing better football. If we can do that then we have a great chance of getting all three points again.
