After the 3-0 win against Fortuna Düsseldorf, brace-scorer Thorgan Hazard spoke about the meaning of the win, the penalty decision and the Foals’ position in the league.
Thorgan, what is your view on the win against Fortuna Düsseldorf?
Hazard: In the first half we had two or three really good chances where we unfortunately couldn’t find the net but we didn’t give up and carried on pushing. In the second half our forwards had even more big opportunities that we took well and so I think the 3-0 was deserved.
Are you happy that you showed a reaction to the disappointing DFB-Pokal exit?
Hazard: The game on Wednesday wasn’t good. We just didn’t play well against Leverkusen. Sometimes it’s just like that in football. But it’s important that we believed in ourselves and rewarded ourselves with the win against Düsseldorf. That was very important for our mentality.
What did you make of the penalty decision?
Hazard: It was a tough decision. If the referee hadn’t given the penalty it would have also been okay. The penalty was a little lucky for us and the timing was also very helpful since it was given straight after half-time. I’m happy that I put it away.
You also scored the goal to make it 3-0. How was that for you?
Hazard: Alassane’s movement was really good for my second goal. After his assist I just had to shoot and I think I had a bit of luck when the ball was deflected. The team’s win is more important than my goal though – especially after two disappointing defeats. We now have to continue working and playing like we did at the weekend. I hope that we can take something from Bremen on Saturday as well.
What do you think when you take a look at the table?
Hazard: The fact that we climbed to second in the table after the win was great - we are now level on points with Bayern Munich. There’s still a lot of the season left to play though and because of that we should only allow ourselves to think about the next game and not start focussing on the end of the season just yet. We’ve already played some really good football, as well as some not so good football. It is therefore important that we continue working hard together and try to improve ourselves. If we do that we will be successful.
