Just three and a half hours after their arrival in Jerez de la Frontera on Saturday afternoon, the Foals completed their a relaxed training session under the Spanish sun.
500 metres away from the Foals’ hotel accommodation, the ‘Barceló Montecastillo Golf Resort’, lay three football pitches, which the squad will share with the U23s for the next six days. “The conditions are really great,” said assistant coach Dirk Bremser. “The weather is perfect and the pitches are in very good condition. It’s a brilliant location for us to prepare for the second half of the season.”
The first training session was more of a light gallop for the Foals, consisting of 4x1km intervals. “It’s a good start as we’ve just arrived, and tomorrow we’ll get going properly,” said Bremser. Alassane Plea and Michaël Cuisance, who were able to travel to Spain despite gastrointestinal problems, completed the intervals at a more relaxed pace. Lars Stindl, Christoph Kramer and Julio Villalba completed individual sessions on the adjoining pitch. All three have nearly recovered from their injuries and should return to full training with the rest of the team during the course of the week.
